Women’s pieces sometimes lean too hard on fashion and not enough on function—so we were thrilled to find a top with thoughtful design touches that actually enhance performance. The scrunchy turtleneck on the polyester Cloud Nine stretches up to the nose to protect against wind; the formfitting cut wicks well; and the long sleeves and hem never ride up. Our testers report that it hit the sweet spot for aerobic activities in temps below 20°F.
The Cloud Nine’s midweight, 86-percent polyester, 14-percent spandex fabric felt supersoft on all-day ski tours in Montana’s Lolo National Forest. Though the top wicked sweat quickly, we found it took up to an hour to fully dry when we overwhelmed it (blame the high spandex content).
“On a very cold, windy day resort skiing at Montana’s Snowbowl, I could pull the turtleneck all the way up to my goggles to protect my face, nose, and even ears,” says a tester.
