There’s nothing fancy about this hardworking softie, but in this case, the basics—great temperature regulation, decent weather protection, four-way stretch, thoughtful features— are all you need. The Gustina’s simple-yet-effective recipe kept us snug but not swampy in everything from cross- country skiing in the teens to hiking into the low 60s. And the cut accommodates wider hips, fitting snugly enough to keep out gusts but never restricting movement.
Maloja’s three-layer polyester fabric features a windproof polyurethane membrane that proved clutch on gusty ski tours at 12,000 feet in Colorado. Two hand pockets fit maps or snacks, and articulated elbows allowed for reaching without riding up. Caveat: The Gustina has a slim Euro cut and long arms; consider sizing up, but first check that the sleeves aren’t too baggy.
“The hood is super comfortable—even when wet, blowing snow on Colorado’s Mineral Belt Trail had me wearing it all day,” says one tester. “The soft, fleecy chin guard and the stretchy panel across the forehead let me crank down the adjustment cord without compromising peripheral vision.”
