OUR TAKE The Dude probably isn’t the sort of guy to hit the trail, but if The
Big Lebowski protagonist did, he’d be covered. Vuarnet’s 1960s model makes a grand return this year with best-in-test tech. It starts with oversized mineral glass lenses, which offer markedly better clarity than plastic, and, in Vuarnet’s case, filter out more harmful infrared light. After that, the 03s have a catalog of sweet features: anti-reflective backsides so you never get the mirror effect when you’re in bright light; 100 percent UV protection; and flexible nylon frames with shape memory.
TRAIL CRED “The field of vision is so big that these became my go-to sunglasses for everything from mountain biking to flying,” says one tester who’s a recreational pilot. “The anti-reflective back- sides are clutch—with lenses so big, it’s rare that you don’t get any impairment in the peripheries. I never had back glare or mirroring on flights.”
