Gear Review: SCOTT Roam

A versatile helmet that can cover deep freeze to shoulder season.

“A helmet should protect my head without reminding me it’s there,” says a tester who wore it in Vermont and Italy. “And this one does.” A top-of-the-head venting system lets in a bit less breeze than other models, but is easy to use (just slide a palm over the vent to open or close) and keeps in heat when you need it; brim vents prevent goggle fog.

The removable ear flaps (which take some finessing to detach and reattach) kept our tester’s ears cozy without squeezing her skull, and the removable visor allowed eyewear flexibility depending on conditions.
