When a camera is touted as “crushproof,” our destructive tendencies kick in. We dropped this unit seven feet, then had our 185-pound deputy editor stand on it. After that, we submerged it, froze it, and sent it to the Smokies for two weeks, in August, to battle the Southeast’s extreme heat and humidity.
The verdict: It’s still performing like it just came out of the box. “It’s light and compact enough to run with, and it has 24 shooting modes, which for a run-and-gun shooter like me is great,” says one tester. With a 5X optical zoom and 14-megapixel capacity, it also takes drool-worthy photos.
A lightning-quick boot-up time—from “off” to shooting in 3 seconds—and fast shutter allowed us to get stunning action pics of our team skiing on fjords in Iceland. Awesome for solo trips: The self-portrait function uses blinking LEDs to let you know if you’re centered.
