Gear Review: Patagonia Advocate Shoes

A leather slipper with a rubber sole–the perfect camp shoe.

The minimalist Patagonia Advocate is lighter than many flip-flops, but provides better toe protection—so it proved the ideal camp shoe (and town shoe) for thru-hikers. Essentially a synthetic leather slipper with a rubber sole, the Advocate can be worn with the heel cup up or flattened, scuff-style. Stretch panels at the instep make it easy to slide on, even when nature calls at midnight. $50; 9 oz. (m’s 9);
