Gear Review: Nau M2 Hoody Baselayer

We're still counting the uses for this versatile hoody for any layer.

Before you gag on the price, consider this: The M2 works as a baselayer in frigid temps, as a second layer in mild ones (up to about 55°F), and an outer sweater on cool summer nights. And it looks good enough to wear everywhere. The four-way-stretch, 18-micron wool is notably supple (and durable), molding itself to all body shapes with a tapered but relaxed cut that appealed to everyone. But merino doesn’t dry as quickly as synthetic fibers: “It was perfect for lift skiing,” notes one male tester. “But for serious aerobic use, I layer it over a light poly T-shirt.” Another tester praised the hood: “It fit easily under a helmet or ball cap and gave me extra neck and ear protection.” $150; 8 oz.; m’s S-XL, w’s XS-L;
