Gear Review: Mountain Hardwear Tempo Ultralight Shell

With a fleece lining, and Gore Windstopper fabric, chills are blocked and breathability is excellent.

For weather that's more cold than wet, get the Tempo. The fleece-lined jacket is as "cozy as a big sweatshirt" said one tester, who praised the micro-chamois lining at the collar, cuff, and hem. The Gore Windstopper fabric blocks chill gusts, and breathability is excellent: "No clamminess when I speed-hiked Vermont's Camels Hump," said a tester. The Tempo isn't fully waterproof (because it's not seam-taped and lacks a hood), but it easily handled hours of steady drizzle. Fit is trim but not restrictive.
