It might look like a city sneaker, but the Urban Approach can handle the outdoors. It shifts seamlessly from trail to talus to technical climb to camp duty. In Utah’s San Rafael Swell, the Phantom rubber sole kept us stuck to sandstone in a slot canyon, and we had no trouble making footholds out of flakes. Nice touch: The material at the back of the shoe around your heel is collapsible, so you can wear the Urban Approaches like mules around camp or while belaying. Ding: Two months of daily use wore down the shallow, circular lugs on our tester’s pair.
