If you’re the type of person who cruises through 30-mile days, these lightweight pants are for you. The Transalpers’ four-way stretch, slim fit, and elastic waist aid smooth movement while you’re blazing down the trail, and a mesh lining lets sweat pass easily through so the material doesn’t stick to your skin. Our favorite detail, though, was the snug, elastic ankle cuffs. “Finally, pants that I can run in without constantly catching the ankles on trailside shrubs or my own feet,” says our tester. “They were particularly helpful when I needed to beat a storm to the car while hiking above Boulder.” Tradeoff? Despite a DWR treatment, the lightweight fabric wets out quickly, and a scrunchy rear portion of the waist bunches up under a heavy pack.
