I want to wear deodorant, but I don't want to attract attention from bears. Is baking soda a good solution?

Quite a few people use baking soda (not baking powder) as a deodorant, and praise its worth. Because it is sodium bicarbonate, it could be a skin irritant, but probably not if dissolved in water prior to being applied to your body. At NOLS, baking soda is sometimes added to garbage bags to reduce the chance of attracting bears, so I'm going to make an educated guess here and say bears are not attracted to baking soda, and certainly not as attracted as they are to typical sweet-smelling deodorants.
