Chafing Advice?
Question:
What would you recommend for chafing, the nasty red rash that can develop on the inner thighs on a long hike? Is there an over-the-counter treatment?

Answer:
Not an uncommon problem, the one you describe. Sweaty backpackers have reported good results from one or more of the following:
1) Wear cotton to hike in when it's not too cold. The sweat gets absorbed, and you stay drier.
2) Smear on a layer of Vaseline or baby rash ointment where the chafing occurs (yep, your pants get kind of gooey, but most people prefer it to raw skin);
3) Try an antiperspirant or baby powder on your inner thighs—something to reduce and/or absorb the sweat.
