Can you get some of the waterborne parasites, such as Giardia, through open wounds or cuts and scrapes?

The waterborne parasites Giardia and cryptosporidium need to be in your gut to reproduce. They will not infect you through open wounds. There are plenty of other germs that can get in via wounds, though, so keep 'em clean. —Buck
