Trouble Sleeping in Camp

I'm a side sleeper who can't get through a night on a sleeping pad without pain in my hips and knees that causes me to toss and turn. Any suggestions for remedying that?

Question:

I’m a side sleeper who can’t get through a night on a sleeping pad without pain in my hips and knees that causes me to toss and turn from about 1 a.m. on. Any suggestions for remedying that? I sleep well on a regular mattress.

Answer:

A friend with a similar problem solved it by making a good pillow (he carries an old pillow case and stuffs it with clothing) under his head and another pillow between his knees. You could try that. If sleep deprivation becomes a real problem, you can go chemical with a sleep inducer (such as Rozerem).
