How Do I Carry a Bear Vault on My Pack

I have an Osprey Ariel 55 backpack and am going on a trip that requires hard side bear vaults. Will I be able to get everything including the BV in my pack, and if so, how do I carry the BV?

Answer:

If you’re a ruthless packer and have paired down your load, you can swing it. That means a compact down sleeping bag and air mattress, the bare minimum of clothes, and sharing group gear like shelter and cooking system. Your BearVault–and I’m assuming you’re talking about the larger version–can be strapped to the top of the pack, either underneath the Ariel’s toplid or fastened to the top of it.

BearVaults come with built-in webbing guides, which allow you to securely strap the canister to your pack and prevent the webbing from slipping off. This photo will give you an idea of what it will look like when strapped to the top of your pack.
