Yaktrax Summit
Comfortable traction
Brand: Yaktrax
Model: Summit
Our take
A quasi-customized fit elevates this traction over the average pull-on traction. Unlike more common full-elastomer harnesses, the Summit has a Boa System that allows users to dial in a perfectly snug fit. That adjustability made the Summits comfortable on both trail-running shoes and bulky winter boots (although our New York tester had trouble pulling them off and on due to the heel and toe rubber’s rigidity). Twelve /-inch carbon steel spikes bite into icy trails, packed snow, and frozen steeps with ease. Gripe: One East Coast duo reported rust on the spikes after a winter of icy and salted roads.
the details Durability is high; the stainless-steel Boa perimeter lace has held strong for 100 miles and counting. Two rubber sole plates on the heel and the ball of the foot shed packed snow, and we experienced minimal balling.
trail cred “Because they’re burly but not cumbersome, the Summits are capable of handling big-mileage runs,” says a tester. “I logged more than 60 miles in them and everyone in my run club wants a pair.”
