Brand: Vasque Outdoor Footwear
Model: Breeze III GTX
Our take This boot packs modern comfort into a classic design. Our testers pounded miles and mountains all around the Rockies and Southwest and everyone’s trip reports noted the boots’ soft underfoot feel. That smooth ride derives primarily from EVA cushion pods in the midsole. Mesh panels on the upper kept our feet from getting swampy during strenuous hikes in mild weather. This newest iteration of the Breeze dispenses with the beefy toe cap; testers didn’t notice a durability downgrade, but did appreciate the boots’ additional nimbleness on low-grade scrambles.
The details The Vibram Contact outsole puts the stickiness of Megagrip into bigger, more durable lugs to give the boot exceptional grip in rocky, rooty, and muddy conditions. It held strong on class 3 climbs in Colorado’s Indian Peaks Wilderness.
Trail cred “I prefer a light, cushioned shoe like this for most of my trips, even with a heavy load,” says one tester. “I scrambled up 500 vertical feet of scree on Medicine Bow Peak in Wyoming’s Snowy Range and had no problem with traction.”
