Trekking Pole Review: Gossamer Gear Lightrek Plus

Pick up the pace with these lightweight trekking poles.

At 6.8 ounces per pair, the Lightreks are all about speed: You hardly feel their weight, which translates to a faster swing rate than heavier poles. These poles don’t telescope or come with springs, but you do get shock absorption from the natural flex of carbon fiber. We liked the all-day-comfort cork grips, but you need to treat these superthin poles with care; one tester shattered one after leaning all his weight (150 pounds plus pack) onto it on a steep, rocky downhill. The Lightreks are sold in fixed lengths-which means you can’t shorten them to attach handily to your pack.

Price: $96

Size: 7 lengths

Weight: 6.8 oz.
