Trail Runner Review: Montrail D7
Just ask our Northwest editor how these boots hold up and he'll tell you a little bit about the 13-mile, 6,000-foot-elevation trail he covered. Easy as instant-pudding pie.
Great price, great shoe. That’s the word from our Northwest editor after he used the D7 to scale exposed routes in the Canadian Rockies for our review of scrambling shoes (10/04). To-the-toes lacing and sticky rubber under the forefoot and inside edge provide goatlike traction on steep rock, while wiggle room for toes and lugs under the heel let him knock off trail days that covered 13 miles and 6,000 feet of elevation gain. A fat rand protects the forefoot, and the midsole has good torsional stiffness and cushion for carrying 25-plus pounds. Best for medium-width, medium-volume feet. $85
