ThirtyTwo MTB

This splitboard-specific boot is ready to climb.

Brand: ThirtyTwo

Model: MTB

Touring Simply put, the ThirtyTwo MTB leaves other splitboard boots behind on the skin track. The Boa-adjustable heel cuff drops down like a drawbridge for 35 degrees of ankle articulation in walk mode. The Boa dial is lower profile and tougher than last year’s, and one tester said “it never broke, even after months of smashing it against my highback, one-footing across flats.” When locked in for the downhill, it rides like a stiff all-mountain boot should. Credit the cuff’s new Spectra lace cable—the same used on tuna boats—which also proved much stronger than the previous version’s.

Features Some snowboard boots slap a measly piece of rubber on the heel and claim to be crampon-compatible. But the MTBs now have a full, injection-molded plastic heel welt that secures semi-automatic crampons with no play. Our mountaineering tester used them all summer while scaling volcanoes in the Chilean Andes and his crampons never slipped off, even when he was frontpointing. 6-13
