Therm-a-Rest Oberon 0°F

Best all-around sleeping bag

Brand: Therm-a-Rest

Model: Oberon 0°F

Our take This crowd-pleaser checks all the boxes. To start, the 800-fill down bag weighs in at a relatively light 2.5 pounds, but it still has a roomy 62 inches around the shoulders. Credit the reduced fill on the bottom side of the bag, which has 20 percent less than the top half. The philosophy: You’re crushing that fill under your body, which means it can’t loft to keep you warm, so you might as well cut weight. However, it means you either need to be a back sleeper or turn inside of your bag to keep warm (there are two pad straps to make sure it stays in place). We took the Oberon down a few degrees past its temp rating and slept through the night.

The details Features like the oversize draft tube as well as a 1-inch-thick baffle in the footbox (effectively making a cocoon for your feet with extra insulation) prevent cold extremities. Bonus: The Oberon is available in a size small (fits up to 5’6”).

Trail cred “It packs down nearly as small as my three-season bag, so I was able to fit everything I needed into a 45-liter alpine pack for an ascent in the Arrigetch Peaks,” one Alaska tester says.
