WARMTH Each baffle is cut into smaller chambers with non-woven polyester dividers, which creates smaller spaces that are more resistant to convective heat loss (the air can’t move around as easily). “I was comfortable with my three-season bag in the mid-20s as long we camped on rock or dirt,” says our tester after a long weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park. But serious winter conditions will require reinforcements, since the pad lacks insulation and has an R-value of 1.8*. “When we camped on snow, I needed to add a foam pad to keep from getting chilled.”
DURABILITY The 75-denier polyester shell is stout. “I plopped this down on a shingly outcropping in Canyonlands for some world-class stargazing, and even though the rocks were too sharp for my bare feet, the pad held up just fine,” says our tester.
