Ternua Yangra

Fight the chills in this warmer-than-it-looks softie.

Brand: Ternua

Model: Yangra

Protection “Super-warm yet breathable,” says one tester who reached for the Ternua Yangra all winter. The shell’s two-layer fabric kept us in the sweet spot between chilled and overheated: A hollow-fiber, brushed polyester inner layer traps warmth, while the durable outer nylon layer adds standard softshell water and wind resistance. Worn over just a baselayer, the combo kept testers comfortable in the low 20s on blustery Mt. Rainier trips.

Features A snug-fitting hood adds significant warmth, then packs away in a zippered collar pouch. But the neck felt tight when zipped all the way up with the hood rolled away. “I have a pretty thin neck, and it still felt a bit constricting,” says one tester. Zip-up pockets on the chest and sleeve fit a smartphone and keys, and the hem and elastic cuffs (with thumbholes) cling snugly enough to keep out the wind. Bonus: A hydrophobic inner layer wicks sweat away on aerobic outings. “I never got that goopy feeling from sweat pooling on my lower back,” notes one trail runner.

Fit Trim, with four-way stretch for unhindered motion, the Yangra fit over a baselayer and thin midlayer and slides easily under a puffy or hardshell. m’s S-XL, w’s S-XL
