Looks can be deceiving. Take the new Zero G: a four-buckle ski boot with a flex of 130. It is the hands-down best boot for downhill skiing in this lineup— and yet it slides in under the 6-pound mark. Tecnica gets the bulk of its weight savings in the thinned-out Grilamid shell and carbon cuff (the same recipe used in the Arc’teryx), then shaves everywhere else: skeletonized buckles, a slim liner, and a small walk mechanism. Ding: price.
THE DETAILS
Though it’s light and rockered, the Zero G Tour Pro feels clunkier when skinning than the other models here. (It sports 55 degrees of ankle articu- lation, but it feels like less.) But testers loved the spring-loaded walk mechanism, which snaps shut, inspiring confidence.

“I couldn’t over-flex the boots, even on resort days,” says one tester, who skis aggressively and tips the scale at 180 pounds. “Overflexing when you’re mid-couloir is a recipe for disaster, and the Zero Gs never faltered, even when I dropped 15-footers in the Breckenridge sidecountry.”
