1-Person Tent Reviews

Tarptent Moment DW 1P

Strongest tent

Brand: Tarptent

Model: Moment DW 1P

Our take In 2014, we lauded the four-season Moment for its stability, and this redesign doubles down on sturdiness. A thicker brow pole provides better support in high winds: “I saw 45-mph gusts and the tent stood firm,” said one tester after an evening on Canada’s Prince Edward Island. Tarptent also lowered the 30-denier, silicone-impregnated nylon fly’s edge so it skims the ground. “I got blitzed with 13 inches of snow overnight, but the structure held up and none blew inside,” our tester reports.

The details Double doors and two 5.5-square-foot vestibules are a luxury for solo campers, making it easy to stash gear in one and use the other for entry and exit. Two-way zippers over each vestibule allow for easy venting when combined with three roof vents, and condensation was nil on a 5°F evening. Caveat: The 18-square-foot floor and 39-inch peak height were tight for one 5’10” tester who holed up for 16 hours during an ice storm.

Trail cred “The interior tent attaches to the fly with toggles, so setup is lightning fast and keeps the canopy dry,” our tester notes. “With practice, I pitched it in about five minutes even with frozen fingers.”
