Suunto 7

The most dependable smartwatch of 2021.

The 7 is one of the most well-rounded smartwatches we’ve ever worn. Using GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou satellites (the latter a relatively new system still uncommon in the smartwatch world), it’s dialed in for heading to rough locales: “I used this watch on a snowy, wet overnight ski trip in Chugach State Park. It did a great job of maintaining satellite connectivity even through thick brush, where other devices lost my track,” one Alaska tester says. “On a hellacious bushwhack, I was able to use heatmaps from other Suunto users to find a social path and avoid the worst of it.” We squeezed 12 hours of battery life out of a single charge using endurance mode (tracking every 10 seconds), and the charge lasts for 48 hours in normal smartwatch mode (no GPS tracking). We also enjoyed the downloadable topo maps and customizable data that can be shown on the face in different exercise modes. Four chunky side buttons for navigation, coupled with a touchscreen, make the watch’s interface easy to navigate, and the 7 slides beneath most shirt sleeves.
