Six Moon Designs Owyhee
The lightest tent of 2021.
Our Take Weight-obsessed minimalists, look no further than the two-person, 25-ounce Owyhee. This shelter uses a two-pole design that maximizes interior volume atop a 50-square-foot floor. “It was easy to move around under the tarp to get dressed and pack gear, even with two people inside,” one tester reported from Chugach State Park in Alaska. “We even cooked in it.” At less than $300, it’s also cheaper than many comparable tents and packs down to the size of a large cantaloupe.
The Details The Owyhee is made of 20-denier ripstop silnylon and comes with a removable bug net, a gear loft, and an easily detachable 4-inch-high bathtub floor—accessories that push the tent’s usability into shoulder season. “The bathtub floor worked well for camping on wet snow,” our Alaska tester says. (You can save 8 ounces by leaving the floor behind in dry conditions.) Drawback: The Owyhee has lackluster brethability, and we got rained on by condensation on a humid, near-freezing night. Setup can also be futzy for one person.
