Sea to Summit Ascent AcII
Most comfortable
Our take This is the mummy bag for people who hate mummy bags. The 61-inch shoulder, 57-inch hip, and 48-inch footbox dimensions split the difference between a traditional alpine mummy and a semi-rectangular bag, earning praise from our big-shouldered testers. “I’d given up on getting a good night’s sleep in a mummy, so this was a surprise,” one says. “Plus, with 750-fill down, it packs down to the size of a soccer ball.” The catch: Extra space means extra material—and a few more ounces.
The details The oversized draft tubes at the zipper and collar prevented cold air from sneaking in. Bonus: The Ascent has a 27-inch half-zip opposite the primary zipper that can be used to flip the top of the bag down like a comforter—or for doing basic camp tasks like cooking and changing layers in partial warmth.
Trail cred “In Washington’s Pasayten Wilderness, I was comfortable despite my ultralight sleeping pad and temps in the 20s,” our tester says.
