DOWNHILL PERFORMANCE A steel mechanism locks the boot securely into ski mode and allows no discernible slop during descents. “It’s as rigid as any dedicated downhill boot,” says one tester. The 110 flex offers enough stiffness for high-speed arcs down open bowls. A bit overpowered for lightweight touring skis, it plays well with midweight rockered boards like the G3 Empire Carbon 115 (page 74). But the upright stance bothered some traditionalists, who prefer more forward lean to aggressively drive ski tips on the steeps.
WALK MODE Flipping the lever into tour mode lets the cuff move some 40 degrees rearward for hiking. But the range includes very little forward articulation, so the Quest feels uncomfortably stiff during long strides and on steep pitches. And it’s on the heavy side.
FIT A huge toebox let testers wiggle their digits, but the rest of the boot suits narrow feet (it uses a 100 mm last) and long legs (its high cuff completely covered some testers’ calves, restricting muscles).
