REI Co-op Quarter Dome Air

Hanging tent

Brand: Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI)

Model: Quarter Dome Air

Our take This hammock strikes a fine balance between sleeping comfort, weather protection, and weight. Stomach- and side-sleepers who hate the inevitable “taco effect” of standard hammocks will love the design of the Quarter Dome Air. Two poles, contained in integrated sleeves at both ends, prop the hammock open at the head and foot, creating a flat, rectangular sleeping surface. “I can usually only nap in hammocks, but I slept through the night in this one,” says one tester. The included 15-denier nylon fly performed well in light rain, but we’d prefer a larger tarp for real storms.

Features The Quarter Dome Air comes with rigging straps. A mesh ceiling with a single access door keeps bugs out, but you can flip the hammock over if you want to sleep without it. Two pockets (one inside and one outside) can each fit a water bottle, and four corner guylines use tension locks so hammockers can adjust the tilt of the base once inside.

Trail cred “The 81-inch length easily fit my 6’2” frame with room to spare,” says our Colorado tester. $219; 2 lbs. 1 oz.
