Petzl Meteor
With larger and more numerous vents than its older brother, this time-tested climber’s favorite gets a “cool” upgrade.
Brand: Petzl
Model: Meteor
Breathability The Meteor has always shined as a well-vented and lightweight brain bucket, but by expanding the size of existing vents and adding a few more, designers were able to cut weight and make it “wickedly breathable without any loss of strength or protection,” says one tester who rocked it in the Adirondacks for shoulder-season rock, snow, and ice. “I actually want to wear it, and wearing your helmet is the most crucial safety factor.”
Comfort The soft microfiber interior feels cozy next to skin (no digging or cutting in like with other helmets), and the quick adjustment system means it fits any size noggin, with or without a beanie. Plus, the harness nests down into the helmet for easy packing.
Fave feature Petzl’s magnetic buckle chinstrap makes on and off doable with one hand or big gloves, a key bonus for climbers of all types.
