Durability

After more than nine months of hard use, one tester reports: “There are no scratches and the mud wipes right off.” Credit the burly, 450-denier ripstop polyester, which is laminated with TPU. It thwarted everything from cactus spines and saber-sharp obsidian to sideways rain and red rock glop.

Weatherproofing

Double protection—from the TPU and a DWR coating—makes this pack all but waterproof. You can do everything but submerge it.

Comfort

The molded backpanel and padded shoulder straps support loads up to about 18 pounds. A webbing hipbelt tucks away when you don’t need it.

Nitpick

The zippered lid prevents overstuffing.
