When the staff of Backpacker gave the Abisko Trekking Tights an Editors’ Choice Award in 2018, we declared that the tights “atone[d] for the downfall of every pair of leggings that came before.” Our view hasn’t changed since, and the Abisko is still one of the best hiking bottoms you can wear on the trail.

These leggings are durable yet breathable, skin-tight without feeling constricting, and just plain-old comfortable. They offer the coverage of a hiking pant without its weight, and the mobility of a tight without pilling after one hike or ripping against the first rock you encounter. Plus, four pockets—yep, that’s right, on a pair of trekking tights—keep your odds and ends close at hand.

Until a better product comes along—and that might not be any time soon—the Abisko will be our go-to for when we need full coverage on a hike.
