Outside Gear Spotlight: Danner Trail 2650 Mid GTX

This gear and more like it are now available in the new Outside Shop, where Outside+ members receive a $50 discount on qualified purchases of $100 or more*. Learn more about Outside+ here.

This boot’s name alludes to the mileage of the Pacific Crest Trail, and it will let you move through the wilderness in comfort no matter is the path ahead is short or epically long.

The Trail 2650 Mid GTX, which is available in both a men’s and women’s version, has a TPU shank—uncommon in a hiking boot that weighs less than 2 pounds per pair—that allows wearers to shoulder a multiday pack, and grants the boot a high strength-to-weight ratio. It also helps prevent feet from bruising, and a beefy toe cap and rand complete this protective package. The boot’s Gore-Tex liner seals out water as well. (Note: It’s probably a bit too warm for hikes in hot temps.)

With an Ortholite footbed and pillowy EVA midsole, the Trail 2650 pairs a comfy, natural stride with its brawny exterior. The leather upper should last for years of trips, and is probably worthy of tackling the PCT itself.
