When the shade is minimal and the sun is strong, we want a brimmed hat that will keep us from squinting, burning, and overheating. This one is made of water-resistant nylon, and its plastic-stiffened brim didn’t lose shape when we stuffed it into our pack. A 10.5-inch-long detachable neck cape easily snaps on and off to provide extra UPF 50+ protection to the ears and neck, and perforated side panels vented heat and moved sweat while we hiked near Fort Collins, Colorado on a 90°F day. An adjustable shock cord around the bottom of the crown secures the Equinox in wind and provides a fit for every head size.
