NEMO Equipment, Inc. Obi Elite 1P
A super light double-wall tent
Brand: NEMO Equipment, Inc.
Model: Obi Elite 1P
Three easy steps to making the lightest double-wall tent possible: 1) Use a single hubbed pole for 21 square feet of floor space; 2) Employ ultralight, 10-denier nylon for the fly; 3) Tailor the fly at the front and back to use less material, and exaggerate the bathtub-style floor to compensate. And then make it 40 inches tall (at the peak) with a generous (9 square feet) vestibule, and you have the three-season Obi 1 Elite. “This tent is so light and packs so small, I felt like I was forgetting something,” says a tester who found his weekend kit suspiciously light for a late-winter trip in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains.
But when winds howled to 20 mph and rain poured in Utah’s High Uintas, the fully-guyed Obi 1 let in a little moisture. Why? The fly sits high off the ground, which is good for ventilation, but items in the vestibule are subject to splashing.
Obi Elite 1P is NEMO’s lightest poled tent. With a subtle change to the front pole hub overhead, Obi 2P offers more interior volume without the need for an additional ridge pole. Using the latest in ultralight textile technology, Obi Elite 1P’s fly and body are 10D PU Nylon and the floor is a 20D PU Nylon. The foot end is tensioned by a single pole, creating a tripod for support and shaving precious ounces. While Obi Elite 1P does not need to be staked out, to maximize interior volume at the foot end, it is recommended to stake out each side.
