MSR Freelite 2
Livable Lightweight
Brand: MSR Gear Reviews
Model: Freelite 2
Why we like it: It strikes the right balance between space, convenience, and weight.
Livability: Two doors (and a pair of 8.8-square-foot vestibules) take the gymnastics out of entry and exit. The 50-inch-wide floor (29 square feet) provides more elbow-room than most tents in this weight class. “We hung out and played cards, and with the hubbed poles pulling the side walls near-vertical, we didn’t have to crowd near the center of the tent,” our Colorado testers report.
Weather protection: There are no cross poles—it’s a single hubbed pole design—so good site selection and ample guyouts are key for a good night’s sleep in heavy wind.
Views: The walls and doors are nearly all mesh, providing plenty of airflow and panoramic views on dry nights.
