MPOWERD Luci Color String Lights

The best lighting for basecamp of 2021.

Since their debut in 2019, MPOWERD’s rechargeable string lights have been a staff favorite for gussying up a campsite. This year, they’ve gotten an upgrade with an all-new colored lighting mode, which lets users toggle them to six different hues—blue, violet, turquoise, green, pink, and white—or set them to cycle through the entire rainbow. But the splashproof Luci is built to handle the elements, too, as one tester discovered when she left it hanging outside for two weeks during a cabin trip near Flagstaff, Arizona. “It rained a few times and didn’t affect the Luci’s function,” she says. “The 18-foot nylon braided cord feels very durable, as do the 10 plastic light casings.” The 15-hour runtime is about 25 percent shorter than the all-white version, but our tester found it didn’t matter, as the built-in solar panel kept the 2,000 mAh battery topped up enough to run for 14 nights without having to plug it in. Bonus: The Luci doubles as a power bank, though it only has enough capacity to charge an iPhone 12 halfway.
