Montane Prism Glove/Minimus Mitt

They’re a light, packable layering system for your hands.

Brand: Montane

Model: Prism Glove

Packability The Prism and Minimus (sold separately) each come with a kiwi-size stuffsack; the pairs of gloves are so small, they don’t even quite fill the bags. And at 3.2 ounces all combined, there’s no reason to ever leave either layer behind.

Protection “Even without their shell, the Prisms are great wet-weather gloves,” says one hiker. “I wore them all day as rain turned to snow in Colorado’s Lost Creek Wilderness, and even when they wetted out, my hands stayed warm, thanks to the PrimaLoft Gold insulation.” Add the waterproof/breathable Minimus shells, and the gloves helped one New Hampshire tester weather early spring rainstorms.

Fit The Prisms’ tight cuffs make them snug going on, but a pull-loop at the wrist helps. The conductive thread in the fingers was tricky to align properly for smartphone use, however. The Minimus mitts fit easily over the top—consider going down a size for better dexterity.
Minimus: $79, 1.6 oz.; Prism: $57, 1.6 oz.; montane.co.uk
