Montane Fast Alpine Neo Pants

This tough, protective bib is more comfortable than most, thanks to a great fit and stretchy hardshell fabric.

Brand: Fast Alpine

Model: Montane

Comfort A trim cut through the thighs and stretch panels at the waist create a streamlined fit that doesn’t billow in the wind. Yet freedom of movement is excellent, thanks to stretchy (and breathable)Polartec NeoShell fabric that let our Colorado tester take big, lunging steps while scrambling on 14,199-foot Mt. Yale. And on spring tours when temps spiked to 50°F, the thigh-length side zips delivered instant and effective venting.

Durability Thirteen stitches per inch (compared to the industry standard of eight) makes these seams stronger than most. Thick, 160-denier nylon reinforces the knee, seat, and cuffs. Yet overall weight is still relatively low, thanks to the narrow, 3 mm seam allowances that trim fabric bulk.

Features Lace hooks on the internal gaiters attach to boots. But one hook ripped out during a tester’s postholing session. Pack dedicated gaiters for rigorous climbs.
