4-Person Tent Reviews

Marmot Torreya 4P

The tent with best features of 2021.

Our Take There’s no reason to pack light with this car-camping behemoth. When it comes to storing your stuff, the Torreya has all the nooks and crannies you need: It boasts an impressive nine large interior pockets, including two that are partitioned into multiple pockets for smaller items. With a peak height of 64 inches, a large-for-its-class 72-square-foot floor, and two entryway vestibules totaling 29 square feet, you won’t have to worry about running out of space. “This tent can fit four people, their gear, and a dog with ease,” one tester said after using it as a home base in Canyonlands National Park.

The Details Supported by six poles (four for the body, two for the fly), the Torreya held its own in inclement weather. Its 40-denier polyester body goes about halfway up before it turns to mesh, allowing for equal parts protection and airflow, and Marmot uses aluminum DAC poles and a combination of pole sleeves and clips to solidify construction. “We experienced a nasty, out-of-nowhere desert storm with 20-mph winds and strong rain,” our tester says. “But we just went on playing cards inside. The floor was completely dry and there was minimal flapping.” Note: Solo setup may be difficult for shorter folks.
