[no-brainer packing]

Why we like it It’s ideal for newbies who need some packing guidance and type As who like to have a precise spot for every little thing.

Organization No more puzzling over how to load your pack correctly and comfortably; no more panic-stricken searches for items that shifted around. The PK 50 speeds up the packing process and prevents clutter by assigning specialized places for key items. “And no more guesswork about weight distribution,” says a tester who used the pack for 12 days in Oregon’s North Fork John Day Wilderness. The two main compartments are sized and shaped specifically to fit Kelty’s TraiLogic sleeping bag, tent, and sleeping pad, but they work with many other brands, as well. There’s a dedicated pouch for clothing and little items, and it’s removable so you can quickly detach it and throw it in your tent.

Comfort The lightweight, foam-padded suspension features a single stay that effectively transfers up to 40 pounds to the hipbelt. “It’s impossible to overload this pack (since there’s no top-lid), and it carried well, with minimal sway,” says a tester.

Closure The PK 50 is totally zipperless. Instead, each compartment has a roll-top, drybag-style closure that allows for superior compression, good weather-resistance, and great durability.

Bummer Testers wished for better exterior storage options. The side pockets are useful for water bottles and such, but interior pockets are futzy to access.
