KEEN Targhee III Waterproof Mid
Eco-friendly leather and a supportive ankle make this a boot that made us feel good about our choices.
Tanneries are often the weak link in a green supply chain: They often use excessive water and energy and source their materials from not-so-green origins. Not the case with this boot: It sports a Leather Working Group certification, a distinction for products that use traceable leather from vetted suppliers and dispose of waste properly. On the trail, the Targhee is sturdy, but not overbuilt: “The ankle is very supportive,” says our tester, whose feet stayed stable on the 6-mile, rock- and root-studded Bald Mountain-Saddleback Wind Trail in Maine. Our tester reported that the boot was comfortable under a 30-pound pack.
