3-Season Sleeping Bags Reviews

Kammok Arctos 20°F

The most versatile sleeping bag of 2021

Your backpacking dreams shouldn’t be limited by your sleep system. This multifunctional quilt kept us warm when we transformed it into a minimalist sleeping bag in freezing temperatures: The bottom half zips together up to the hips to create a fully enclosed footbox, sealing out drafts and keeping toes warm, while three burly sets of snaps along the top half (the strongest among quilts we tested) fix the Arctos into a mummy shape. One stomach-sleeping tester snoozed soundly during a 30°F night on California’s Bodega Bay, but another restless tester reported cold air would enter between the snaps when she tossed and turned. Hanging around campfires, we converted the quilt into a poncho, slipping our head through a 12-inch center zipper slit. Removable, adjustable straps (included, .5 ounce) also create an underquilt for hammocks, or allow the Arctos to wrap around pads or other sleeping bags and add an additional layer of warmth. This quilt is 78 inches long and 55 inches across at its widest point (over the torso), with a slight taper below the hips. It compresses to the size of a shoebox thanks to 850-fill down. The DWR-treated, 10-denier ripstop nylon successfully fended off morning fog after our night on the beach in Bodega Bay.

20°F; unisex one size
