Holiday Gift Guide 2011: Leatherman Style PS
A mini-multitool for working a little MacGyver magic in the mountains
Modeled after the crazy-cool Leatherman Skeletool , the Style PS delivers on performance in a diminutive package. I put it through its paces for a few weeks, making basic field repairs and trying to break the pliers and the tiny-but- sharp scissors. Both held up admirably well, though Leatherman has an excellent warranty program if there’s any problem. (I once sent in a slightly broken multi-tool and they fixed it and sent it back to me all free of charge.)
Like its larger sibling, the Style PS has a carabiner-style clip integrated into the body. A nail file/screwdriver combo and tweezers complete the package. Coming in at under two ounces and about three inches end to end, there’s no excuse to leave this little guy at home. The spring-loaded pliers are burly enough to reshape a pack strap buckle I managed to slam in the car door at the Middle Fork Snoqualmie trailhead outside of Seattle. Later that day, I crimped an errant fishhook barb with them before chasing a few pretty little rainbow trout with my fly rod. Keep in mind that the Style PS is just for repairs and doesn’t include a knife.
