Hiking Boots Review: Asolo Stynger GTX

Boots for women that are both sturdy and compact.

These sturdy yet compact boots became one female tester’s “favorite shoes ever” after long, hard backpacks through Yellowstone and around Big Bend’s foot-pounding Outer Loop. She credits the forgiving fit and lightweight support: “There’s plenty of forefoot room, and they’re super-stable in the arch and ankle. Also, the tongues don’t have any pressure points or shift around, and the hard toecap protects my feet so I can gawk at the scenery without stubbing my toes.” For men, Asolo offers the nearly identical Fugitive; we’ve seen both boots stay dry and survive brutal talus on multiweek Alaskan epics. Best for low- to medium-volume feet.
