Heavy-Duty Roller

The Juggernaut’s combination of weather-resistant materials (waterproof, PVC-free tarp fabric) and bombproof construction aced the worst road abuse, including being left outside in a four-hour rainstorm and getting dragged all over Europe for a month. A steel axle runs through the base of the welded alloy frame, and two large (100mm) skate wheels kept the Juggernaut rolling through deep gravel and dirt, even when we loaded it with 55 pounds of gear in the Alps. The tradeoff for durability is weight: The largest expedition model weighs 10 pounds 7 ounces, which can penalize you now that airlines are cracking down on baggage limits. $285-$350; 3 sizes, 5,200 to 9,150 cu. in.; mountainhardwear.com.
