If your foot is extra wide or super skinny, or if you have a protruding bunion, finding a comfortable boot can be tough. Enter the Tatra GTX, a burly backpacking boot (slightly heavier and more robust than the others on this page) from Hanwag, a German company that’s relatively new to the U.S. market.
The Tatra is a classic, all-leather boot that comes in narrow, regular, wide, and “bunion” sizes (the latter has a bumped-out toebox) for both men and women. “It’s supportive enough to carry any size load in punishing terrain,” says our tester.
