GPS Review: Nextel BlackBerry 7100i

Get a mobile phone, data organizer, walkie-talkie, and GPS, all in one device.

This mini-computer meets every travel need: It’s a mobile phone, data organizer, Bluetooth device, walkie-talkie, GPS, and e-mail/Web connection, all in a package barely larger than a cell phone. Add the Trimble Outdoors option ($13 per month), and it becomes a complete GPS receiver. Testers used it on hikes in New Mexico and Colorado, and reported speedy satellite acquisition and a dependable lock. You can also wirelessly download topo maps and upload your GPS routes. Drawbacks: Battery life is short, and the screen is hard to read in direct sun.

Price: $450

Weight: 5.2 oz.
