GPS Review: Garmin Foretrex 101

A favorite unit for beginners

Still trying to figure out how to operate your DVD remote? Think GPS is going to be even harder? No worries. This wrist-mounted unit is the most intuitive model we’ve tested-and it doesn’t skimp on critical features. It sniffs out satellite signals better than some units twice its size, and it holds 500 waypoints and 10 tracks. It also requires little juice (one tester reported 15 hours on two lithium AAAs), and the price is a bargain. All of which explains why we gave it an Editors’ Choice Award in April

2005.

Price: $139

Weight: 2.5 oz.
